Tioman Island is 39 km long and 12 km wide, it is the largest of a group of 64 volcanic islands. It boasts miles and miles of sandy beaches and swaying palm trees, charming villages and friendly people. Its crystal clear water has a spectacular marine life and colourful coral reefs. The striking profile of the twin peaks of Gunung Nenek Semuku provides a markable landmark to Tioman Island, reputed to be one of the most beautiful and idyllic islands in the world.
Tioman Island is an excellent spot for water sports activities. You can go scuba diving, deep-sea fishing, snorkeling, boating, water skiing, windsurfing or enjoy the beauty of undersea gardens by ridding around the island in a glass-bottomed boat.
There are several villages scattered around the coastline, the larger ones being Salang, Tekek, Genting, Paya and Juara. Each village offers a different and unique atmosphere. Tioman is a duty free zone and offers a good selection of duty free goods.
Tioman Island is home to a splendid variety of plants and 45 species of mammals of which several are protected. The inland rainforest area, encompassing approximately 12,400 hectares, is a strictly enforced nature reserve. There are 138 species of birds, including the majestic Frigatbird. Moreover, Tioman Island has species that are endemic to its shores. The soft-shelled turtle and the Tioman walking catfish are both unique and can be seen on rainforest walks.
Tioman Island is accessible by passenger boat from Mersing in Johor. There is also direct ferry service from Singapore to the island. Furthermore there are daily flights into Tioman from Kuala Lumpur as well as from Singapore.
