Holiday resorts in Southeast Asia usually includes most of the facilities you want during your holidays. Normally you find several restaurants, bars, at least one swimming pool, fitness center and several shops. Also a variation of activities are usually available.

The idea is that you do not need to leave the resort while you are on holidays, and therefore you often find that holiday resorts are located in beautiful surroundings out of town and sometimes quite isolated. If you want to go to the local restaurant or have a look at the local life, it may not be close by, although in Southeast Asia local traders at many places would set up small, rather primitive restaurants and shops near the resorts to attract customers. These restaurants are usually a lot cheaper than those found at the resort, and the food more authentic.

Many resorts focus on different categories of guests. Some resorts are designed for families with children; other resorts are more for adults with certain interests like water activities, golf or fitness. Resorts also come in different categories to suite different needs and budgets. Before you book a holiday at a resort, make sure it has the facilities and a setup that suites you. The best way to find out more about a specific resort is to visit their website or to talk to a travel agent before you make your booking.

Remember to check service charges and tax, often they are not included in the price you can find on the website or are being quoted, and in some cases these charges can add as much as 25%-30% to the daily rate. Also it is a good idea to check how you get to the resort, and back again. Some offer a complementary shuttle bus from the nearest airport, others don't and you will have either to make arrangements with the resort to get picked up, and to pay for it, or to make your own arrangements.
